Re: THE GENERAL ELECTION
Ha my history teacher and I confused everyone today as we were talking about this and some of the results and what not. People couldn't understand why we cared about politics that "doesn't effect us" which is absolutely false.

Re: THE GENERAL ELECTION
I was disappointed this morning. Lib Dem 51 seats? Come on...
Not much I can contribute to the voting system unfortunately.

Seriously, people dont realise how much WORSE Labour are than Conservative (Im not saying the tories are perfect, not by ANY means.).
They dont actually punish the poor, they punish the lazy, which is a good thing. You wont get anything for being a sloth from the tories, you will from Labour, simply so you keep voting for Labour.
Conservatives actually benefit the genuinly poor and disabled, and also offer aspirations to working and lower middle class (like most peeps on here) to go that bit higher.
Average is the goal of Labour, they dont want you reaching high, as that makes you reach to the Conservatives. Theyd rather you got by, rather than struggled.
Im interested to see how this proposed Lib Dem/Conservative co-alition works. It could be really, really good.
It could also mean, when people see that hard work is rewarded rather than laziness, that these 2 parties are the best of the byunch we have, and in 5 years time its a Tory/Lib Dem slugout to win outright control of the country and "megalabz" are in 3rd place.
What we have to rememebr is that Thatcher was a 1 off, an idiot and who is on her deathbed, not still in charge. Do us proud Nick and Dave.

Re: THE GENERAL ELECTION
I'm completely with Kev here, everyone has been giving me shit because I've said that it's not that bad. I didn't particularly want a Conservative government, but i really didn't want another Labour one.
I'm actually reasonably pleased with how things are working out so far, should be interesting to see how a Conservative/Lib Dem coalition works out.

Re: THE GENERAL ELECTION
i hate the conservatives, really hoping labour and liberals will form some kind of pact, rather than liberals and the conservatives...

That why the majority of Scotland vote Labour?
We need parliamentary reform, Conservatives don't wanna do that. I'd rather see a Lib Dem/Labour coalition.
Re: THE GENERAL ELECTION
We do need reform, it's not right that 6.8m people vote Lib Dem and get 57 seats, but 8.6m vote Labour and they get 258. I'm jobby at maths, but that's wrong, surely.

Re: THE GENERAL ELECTION
It's annoying that people are already slamming the tory's before giving them a chance, if it don't work out, then most likely there will be another reform in 6ish months.
Re: THE GENERAL ELECTION
Its never fair anyway.... cos the "majority" vote gets it...
but the "majority" is never the ACTUAL majority.
aka conservs are at an advantage because they had more votes than lab and lib dem... but lib dem and lab 's votes together is the overall MAJORITY.
I hope im not talking out my arse.

Re: THE GENERAL ELECTION
Scotland votes Labour because (as the SNP are still relatively early towards becoming a strong political force here) the only other main alternative in Scotland is Conservative, Warner. Regardless of whether or not Thatcher was a one-off, her reign has left the Tories practically unelectable up here.
Taking the milk from the schoolkids, scrapping devolution for the Scottish government, using Scotland to experiment with the poll tax, closing the steelworks, the shipyards, the car factories. Obviously I wasn't around when Thatcher was in power, but she ruined Scotland during her three terms as PM. And everyone here remembers that.

Re: THE GENERAL ELECTION
Well obviously Labour+Liberals= more than Conservative, but Conservative+ Libs= A whole lot more than just Labour.
If Labour did a coallition with Lib Dem, SNP and Green, they STILL wouldnt have a majority.
The fact that Labour has been socially engineering the country towards having more Labour voting "types" by throwing free and advantages towards poorer, lower paid, and single mother families (Despite the fact its own investigations show that in most-but not all-cases, two parent families provide a better upbringing than single parent families) shows how depserate they are for power, and will even mess up the country to achieve it.

Re: THE GENERAL ELECTION
It's not like people can always choose whether they are single parents or not though.
Re: THE GENERAL ELECTION
Not always. Marriages do fall apart and people do die. But just having kids when your 16 and have no intention of even calling the guy/girl the next day is totally different to a marriage breaking down.
Socially engineering this change just to secure votes at a cost of hundreds of millions per year is disgusting.
