Friends get marching orders from Channel 4

Repeats of the hit US comedy Friends will no longer be shown on Channel 4 and sister station E4 from next autumn.

The sitcom, which stars Jennifer Aniston and David Schwimmer, has been a regular fixture on the broadcaster's schedules since 1994.

Channel 4 said the move would free up funds for new shows and acquisitions.

"After 15 years, 10 hit series and 236 terrific episodes, it's time to say goodbye to old Friends and welcome new ones," said Channel 4's Gill Hay.

She added: "We are incredibly proud to have been the home of Friends for so long, but at a point when the channel is undergoing a period of creative renewal it felt like the right time to part company."

Commercial success

In a statement Channel 4 said it was hopeful the decision would "provide an opportunity to refresh the schedule" across both networks.

Oh man, that sucks but tbf I've seen nearly all of the episodes thanks to C4 so here's hoping the 'refreshed schedule' is a good one.

I think we've all seen every episode like 100's of times already haven't we? But still I guess it's always nice to have them on TV..

I guess E4 wanted to make way for more shitty American-teen drama's (surely they have WAY too many now). I used to watch The O.C, but since then there's been like a hundred other programmes made.

Not really that bad, I mean its been running on T4 for ages now. Much rather watch scrubs.

Possibly just cutting back on how many times a day each episode is shown would allow space for some crappy new series'. They really don't need to show the same episode 3 times in one day! But it does suck that it wont be on Sad

This is pretty annoying.

But I'm thinking they'll put Scrubs or How I Met Your Mother on at 5, and something new on at 6.

Gonna miss Friends but.
