Blackpool - 6th Feb

Post by nicola.the.hunter on Tue 26 Jan 2010, 6:04 pm

Quite a few people from here are going to this, so thought I'd start a new topic. Also ....

Blackpool in the summer conjures up images of families enjoying the golden beach, donkey rides and chips wrapped in newspaper.

Blackpool in the winter, on the other hand, is wetter than a boy band’s ballad about unrequited love and, worse still, windier than a roadie after a vegetable curry.
On February 6, Enter Shikari will roll into the Lancashire seaside for a show at the prestigious Empress Ballroom, with special guests The King Blues in tow.

Concerned that their queuing fans will be soaked within an inch of their lives and blown into the unforgiving waves of the Irish Sea, the band, in conjunction with Kerrang! magazine have set up the K! Pre-Show Club Room inside the very toasty Winter Garden complex which also houses the Empress Ballroom.

From 2pm to 6pm, ticket holders for the show will be able to shelter from the lashing rain and gale-force winds where there’ll be a bar, a set of turntables and places to relax.

To keep you entertained, Enter Shikari’s Rou Reynolds and Rob Rolfe will be manning the decks alongside The King Blues’ Itch and there’ll be other surprises during the afternoon.

Capacity is limited to the first 500 people on a first come, first served basis.

“This night is gonna be huge,” says Rou. “Rob and myself will be thrashing out some solid dubstep, drum n’ bass and house to get the party started. Rory C [Clewlow, guitar] will be in a bow tie and smooth beige corduroys rustling up cocktails for the masses and performing magic tricks with elastic bands and other everyday household utensils. Batty C [Chris Batten, bass] will be galloping about floozing with the females and mincing with the males. We’re gonna have a few surprise performances as well that we're all excited about. It’ll gonna be splendid to rub up against you all!”

Thinking of ditching travelling with Nicola to get there earlier and go by myself. But then I can also let you know if they're still letting people in later on!

I'll book an earlier train anyway. But a problem is the travelodge being available at 3-4 anyway. If it is the case, I don't particularly mind risking not getting in as it'll be just the aftershow party with a bunch of 14 year olds added to the mix.

Tis a nice addition for my birthday anyway.

Why does there have to be engineering works on the line from Blackpool to Bradford on Sunday. I did think of driving, but there's always problems parking in Blackpool, so I'll pay extra to go via Leeds and Manchester PPicadilly, quite a bit extra, as I can't do with "rail repacement buses" which have no legroom for long-legged people.

Bit gutting for all the guys/girls who made the effort up to this! Not cracking news to say the least. I wonder if the band did any roof running beforehand...
