Smoking
I mentioned the topic of smoking in a different thread, and it seemed like a lot of people had opinions on it.
I personally have never smoked, and hate the smell of it even just when someone has been out to smoke and just their clothes smell of it. What are your views on it?

i don't smoke, but most of my friend's do at parties/gigs and such.
not many of them smoke regularly but i think they're just the same as me, it makes your clothes stink and its a waste of money really.

Re: Smoking
I smoked for two years, glad ive quit I have so alot more money, plus it's easier not to have to cover the smell up from my parents.
Also my granddad smoking for 60+ years caused him to get Macula Degeneration Its truly awful, to see him go through that was very emotional and made me quit. Although the smoking didn't cause this outright, that was due to the NHS. It intensified it, 67 years of smoking made him 3 times more likely to get it.

Though I used to smoke AGES ago, I don't really see an advantage to it and I'm glad I quit. You ask a smoker why they smoke and they can't really give you an definitive answer.
Re: Smoking
That's so true. I never could, i did it partly cus I was really depressive when I started, plus mates did, I bet if you asked half the people who smoke at college and they do it cus mates do or to "look cool"
But what's cool about smoking?

Re: Smoking
I smoked for about a week, but my body just totally rejected it.
My max was like 3 in one day and I felt sick afterwards, so I didn't smoke after that. I can smoke anytime I like, but I always end up gagging.
The smell and feeling of the smoke is horrible and if anything, SMOKING makes me in a worse and more depressive state than if I don't smoke.

Re: Smoking
I've been smoking for about 6 months now, after totally being against it. Started doing it because my friends got me into it, but I do actually enjoy it now, not planning to stop either, even though I know it really isnt doing me any good.

I know, I should get a fucking award for my speeches.
Re: Smoking
I tried it once (for certain reasons), but I've always been against it. Don't see the point.
If you think about it, it's such an odd thing to do as well. Setting something alight then breathing it in.. if I'd never seen it before I'd be like wtf?

I know, I mean, if you think about it, you're paying to kill yourself slowly. I could never start a habit. I'm always broke.

Yeah same, kinda.
I started in about 3rd year, so about 14. Buts it's not a proper habit. Only tend to smoke at parties or gigs.
Re: Smoking
Is it odd that I don't like the smell of smoke on me, but if I'm outside I don't actually mind it on other people?

Nah, I get you. It's why I have to be drunk if I've smoked because I can't stand the smell when I'm sober.

Re: Smoking
I need a smoke and a coffee when I wake up, when I'm on my breaks and before I go to bed. 'bout four packs a week.
Re: Smoking
I probably smoke around 20 a day now, used to be less, but then I moved to University
To be honest I don't see the big deal. I can understand people not wanting to smoke for personal reasons, as long as they don't try and tell me not to smoke.
The reason I smoke is probably got started due to stress and friends smoking, but now I do genuinely enjoy it and don't really think about the effect it has on my health... which I guess is kinda bad seeing as the only reason I've ever considering quitting was lack of money and not because I'm slowly killing myself, but I do save a fair bit of money by rolling them myself.

I don't smoke but i don't really care if other people do, its their own choice. Id love to see what people would say if they started putting pictures of fat people on mcdonalds boxes.

oh man,
this reminded me of my pal adek, he smokes like.. ten or more a day.
so when the time for english solo talks came around last year, he chose the obvious topic of smoking.
when he was doing his,
he climbed on a table and screamed...
'SMOKERS ARE BEING TREATED LIKE SCUM!'
the then ranted about 'hamburgers don't come with a warning of 'eat this and you'll end up a fat fuck.' i mean, you don't get a photo of michelle mcmanus on a hamburger, but yet on a deck of fags you get this guy?'
so then, he wapped out his fags and proceeded to offer my english teacher a cigarette.
surprisingly, he got a good mark for it.
oh, and all of that was with a heavy russian accent.
which made it all the more amusing.
