Take to the Skies vs Common Dreads.

Post by Moshin_Like_Curtis on Thu 07 May 2009, 10:00 pm

Am i the only one slightly worried that Entershikari is becoming sort of Entershikari V2, Ok Time For Plan B and other classics are amazing but the new stuff... Don't get me wrong juggernaut kick's ass but some of their new stuff just does not seem the same, all most alien to their previous 1 hit wonders. The new "Rap" Aproach is just scary, Wheres the screamo and the kick ass funky techno that gets you moshing in your house with the curtains closed? I just wonder if Enter Shikari is gone, what about you guys?

I think they've still got the oomph and power in their songs. I guess if you don't like the new stuff there's always new bands to try. I personally think they have changed, but dude most bands do when they progress to their second album. You wouldn't wanna eat only bread for the rest of your life surely? Change is a good thing Smile
I'm flippin' excited about this.

I think that's a really good way of describing how they're changing. I think though it's difficult to judge the new album until we hear it in its entirity.
At the moment some of us have heard about 35% of the songs. They're different from TTTS, which is a brilliant album.

The toast to cereal thing is quite clever, Curt. But as stated before, it would get boring if common dreads was just like TTTS and i think ES are still trying to figure out what works and what doesnt. They seem to be doing a lot of experimenting with this album which may make it not the best, but have great results on later albums.

And Clive, great name!!!!

I think we need to actually hear the whole album before comparing it to TTTS.

Aye agreed Sophie, although Metal Hammer's review of Common Dreads could give a good insight as to what to expect from the new album compared with TTTS.

Im looking forward to Common Dreads. The new stuff is DEFINETLY very different to the old, but lets not forget a lot of TTTS was re-works of songs the band have been doing since they were kids.

The new stuff is made by mature (sort of) young men with a problem with how the world is going, and also starting to reminisce about their early teens.

I guess by having a change of style (without ditching their roots) it gives them a broader appeal.

I'm not sure, I do hope that Enter Shikari have some amazing albums to come. But i'm sure in a few months after Common Dreads we'll still be listening to the 'old stuff' as well as listening to the new things to come.

It's very different naturally, I think if a band doesn't at least try and make a few tweaks to their sound it get's old fast, but of the new stuff we've heard I fucking love it. I don't think the change is as extreme as some people are making out though, they still sound like the Enter Shikari I know and love, TTTS was amazing, I'm confident Common Dreads will be a brilliant album.

I hate to dissect this post, but honestly it needs to be done. 1) Bands go through changes, it's gonna happen regardless of how sudden it is or how long it takes. Deal with it, because chances are you will end up liking the new music more than the old. 2) Of course it doesn't seem the same, it isn't! 3) You can't pluralize the term "one hit wonder", because it doesn't make sense. 4) Rap? Really? Where in any of their new songs does the genre RAP appear? haha. 5) Screamo, kick ass funky techno, it's all still there. Just be open to a new sound.

Common Dreads is so much better than TTTS.
Then again, with the standard of the first album, I'd be worried if it wasn't.

although I understand what you are saying, you can pluralize the term such as "These bands are all one-hit wonders." In the context as it is used however, the plural version doesn't make sense.
