Video Games Thread
Since there is no "Video game" section I guess here would be the best place.
First off let me say this: If you haven't played Mass Effect shame on you. It is the best RPG ever. It makes Oblivion, Fallout 3, Fable 2, and every other RPG its bitch. It will amaze you when you play it. Anywho, enough about ME1.
On to Mass Effect 2. This game set to be released in the first quarter of 2010 will be the best game of 2010. I'm already predicting that. So this is pretty much the thread to discuss it (and ME1 if you wish.) I don't know if there are video game nerds like me here but whatever. This is where I'm going to post all the Mass Effect 2 updates.
And here is some video links:
Teaser
Pre E3 Video
Teaser 2 - this video is about 41 minutes long and the actual teaser is in the last 4 minutes.

Re: Video Games Thread
Mass Effect is a different kind of RPG to Oblivion and Fallout 3. PLUS fallout 3 rapes it all over the shop when you download the latest content pack. But in the vanilla version I'll give you it that Mass Erect is a rather good space RPG, although more direct flying control would have made the game fucking immense. Plus the faunts did the end theme, thats pretty sick. But yeah i'll probably pick ME2 up at some point. Just as soon as I buy all the other games that I want.

I only did that because I love Faunts too much. And yes, best ending to a game ever. Not like with what happens story wise, but the actual ending. The awesome build-up then M4 Pt. II. Best song in a non-music video game ever imo.
And yes it is a different type of RPG but still, it's a RPG. And really the only difference in style is the sand-box style of Fallout 3 and Oblivion. Most people say Mass Effect is a linear game which technically when calling the story in yes that's true but gameplay no. You don't have to do the missions. It is an open-world RPG just like Oblivion, it's just that it doesn't have a huge sand-box style map. And in my opinion
Mass Effect > Oblivion > Fallout 3. Fallout 3 just didn't have enough quests to make me love it. And I don't have $20 to spend buying DLC for it. Way too many other things I want to buy first.
And wait, you like Faunts?!?!?!?!?!?!
Re: Video Games Thread
It's only 800 ms points isn't it? I dunno how much in Dollars it costs to buy 800 points but its only £8 for 1000 mspoints in Blighty. Not that expensive when it opens up the game endlessly. And while I agree that Mass effect is more open than people give it credit for, there aren't that many unique places, Space station with rebels on, Planet with some form of hostile life on, Planet with moonbase on etc. It just didn't grasp me like Fallout did. Diff'rnt Strokes for diffrent folks I spose. Wonder how they are getting past the whole shepard thing, because I saw the latest teaser and he was hinted at being playable, but ya know, he shouldn't (don't want to ruin the story)

Re: Video Games Thread
well it's $10 for 800MS but I was talking about both DLCs and that would be $20. And I agree with you on the lack of variety in unique places (set aside the planets used for the main missions, those were awesome.) The "assignments" (or side missions) lacked in variety as well. But the citidal was amazing!
And as for it opening up the ending for Fallout 3, I saved right before the ending, beat it, loaded that save, left the memorial, and that's how I managed to keep playing so that doesn't serve much purpose to me but I do want to get them eventually.
oh and, SHEPARD'S NOT DEAD!

Re: Video Games Thread
Thats what i was attempting to avoid revealing, nice work. I reckon its either a zombie, A geth Quarian or a hologram

Wait, what do you think is a zombie, a Quarian or a hologram?
And I just wanted to make it very clear that Shepard is not dead so people don't post like "Omg that armature had his armor he must be deadz!!!!"

Re: Video Games Thread
Shepard, I reckon there's a twist, and he's not actual the true shep.

I think he is normal as he tries to assemble a team to venture into the rebel traverse to do whatever. Who knows though? It may be a twist, and a nice one at that!
Re: Video Games Thread
See I reckon this game will go deep past the veil, Maybe into the Dark Space to fight the reapers head on. It's been said the game will be "darker" maybe they meant actually Darker lit

They do. Darker story and darker lighting. Have you watched the Pre E3 video? It explains some.
Re: Video Games Thread
Nah, I'm trying to media blackout it, At least until my exams are over. I don't want to be looking for info about a game instead of revising. PLus media blackouting makes games much more interesting

well i posted a link to it so you dont really have to search that hard but i get what you're saying.
it builds up like anticipation and stuff
Re: Video Games Thread
I agree it is one of the best EVER, but over the Elder Scrolls series? No way. But yes over Fable and Fall Out 3.
Re: Video Games Thread
I felt Oblivion raped with its sandbox style map and it's incredible hugeness but its story/quest line lacked horribly so that's why Mass Effect beats it imo. I am a huge story freak in video games so that's probably the biggest factor and I feel that Mass Effect's story rapes Oblivions. But that is the only Elder Scrolls game I have played. I might buy Morrowwind later in life but I'll probably just buy the new one when it comes out in 2010/2011.
Re: Video Games Thread
You're right about the story, it could have been better. Morrowind is EASILY the better game of the two. I've been playing Morrowind everyday for 3 months, and I'm only level 63, I barely did the main story till now, and it's taken a while so far, and that with the fact that I know where nearly EVERYTHING is and no one can fuck with me, so without those it would take quite some time.
Plus the map is almost equally huge, and the graphics are still decent. the landscapes are still great.

Re: Video Games Thread
I should probably get it then. Oh and it was really stupid. In Oblivion, I beat every guild, the main quest line, and at least 45 side quests and I was only level 6. I guess it's because I got the Apotheosis staff within the first 30 minutes of playing and did the copy glitch so I had infinite soul gems so it never ran out of "ammo" and it was instant kill so I basically never died nor faced a real challenge. Except for getting lost inside Oblivion Gates. Those things confused the fuck out of me.
Re: Video Games Thread
Haha, they are confusing. Ya, I (just lost my file
) was level 10 and was getting RAPED in the Oblivion gates, so it's cause you had that staff
I'm gunna get the game for comp as soon as I fix mine.
THEY HAVE MODS WHERE THEY HAVE REBUILT TAMRIEL (2nd game?) AND MORROWIND! They're going untill they have every map from every game! I'm so fucking excited to get those!

Re: Video Games Thread
They also have that mod for Morrowind too, you can go to Tamriel, not sure about Cyrodill though.
Re: Video Games Thread
Aww my laptop is too shitty to play Oblivion on so I had to get the 360 version. I want the mods so badly. Hopefully I can get a better computer soon. But I have heard about the Morrowind mod. Sounds awesome!
Re: Video Games Thread
Ya, Oblivion for 360 is the worst in my opinion
It goes PC > PS3 > 360..... I hope I did those lines in the right direction... I can never remember which one to use
Re: Video Games Thread
haha they are right. And I think I would have to kill myself before I buy a PS3. Just not enough games on it that I want to justify me buying it.
Re: Video Games Thread
??? Are you crazy! So many good games, I already have between 20 and 30 games, none I haven't liked yet. And it's only going up from here.
But almost all the good games on PS3 are RPGs, I just feel the PS3 lacks diversity. But they are getting some good FPS's it seems.

Re: Video Games Thread
I am very particular when it comes to games. The games I would buy would be Killzone 2 (I loved the first for PS2), the Uncharted game, Resistance 1 & 2, and I think there were a few more that I can't remember. But I may be surprised if I do get one. I may get a PS3 Slim when/if they come out.
Re: Video Games Thread
Wow man, that's slim pickins, I love so many games on that system. The 360 is slim pickins to me though, so preference thing I believe.
