It's stupid. It's like they've completely forgotten why they were protesting, it's just become an excuse for thugs and vandals to quench their thirst for violence and disorder, turning on the innocent, absolutely pathetic.

It's disgusting. Some of the rioters were down my friends street last night in Clapham, I was terrified. Tonight rumours are Kingston is getting hit, which is where il be living in a matter of weeks. I hope the guys stuck in the middle of this (Jack, Niamh, Charn and Joely especially from what I've seen on Twitter) that you're okay and stay safe.

Cheers for the concern guys but I'll be fine! Woolwich has been badly beaten, as have Lewisham and Peckham (focusing on these areas as they're near me).
Greenwich (where I live) has people gathering in the park ready to go. Shops are being boarded up. Greenwich is such a beautiful, historic place - if they destroy it they're ruining fucking history! Absolute scum - I could SLIGHTLY understand if there was some serious political motive behind this, but Greenwich is a decent area and has a low crime rate compared to Lewisham, Woolwich or Peckham. They're rioting for no fucking reason.

Absolute KUDOS to the clean-up projects happening all over the capital though. I'm venturing to Woolwich tomorrow if it's safe (apparently it's kicking off there again atm). A city-wide clean up can be organised in one night by ordinary people, yet David Cameron says nothing for days; then when he finally organises getting MPs together to talk about it, there's more effort put into explaining how to get travelling expenses back then the tragic situation the country is in right now DICKHEADS. Is there a country in the world that has an honest politician? No? Ok then. Take me to Mars.

Victoria/Westminster (where I live) haven't been affected yet, but a few areas such as Clapham/Wandsworth/Croydon where my friends live have been destroyed. I'm so angry, none of this shit is to do with the man who was shot in Tottenham and there's no excuse to ruin people's lives like this. All this is doing is creating even more racial tension, people on the news talking about how this 'is all down to black people' and none of the shit being seen in the media is helping! I in no way agree with the policies of the coalition government, but EMA being cut along with other things isn't going to make me start wreaking havoc in my own community!
Aunt had to come to my house in tears yesterday because she couldn't get home and the area of the hospital she works in was surrounded by idiots in balaclavas, she's currently stuck in there right now because the hospital is on lockdown.

It's not down to black people, it's down to thick people, and by 'thick' I mean ignorant and uneducated, easily led, no consideration, no empathy, selfish. But there's a flip side to all that: lack of opportunity, lack of social mobility, lack of parents who give a fuck, lack of parents at all, lack of any authority figure or role model in their life giving a toss from their school teachers to their dole officers to the government.

Charn's link pretty much sums it up for me - those girls are putting the blame everywhere but on themselves, celebrating hurting 'rich people' who in reality are hairdressers or dress makers who've probably worked bloody hard to get where they are; but if they've never been taught to respect hard work or to consider the outcome of their actions, how can anyone expect them to react otherwise?


On a slightly different note, what's the difference between us and them? As in us, the crowd that chants along to 'Destabilise' and trashes HMV stores and measures the success of gigs by how many of the emergency services got called out to them, and them that burnt down Greggs last night? Is it 'cause we've got or will get a university education and aren't doing it for a plasma TV?

ES are pretty much anti-violence, obviously music and lyrics will be interpreted differently but I'm pretty sure the sort of revolution that ES are calling isn't one of violence, it'd be a bit of a contradiction of terms to have anti-war messages and pro violence on the same album, but yeah, people are bound to take things to extremes as seen with literature etc. and think of it as a literal call to arms but that's not a thing ES can help

Also rioting moving up north, hit Manc. Northumberland police have been called down to help in london and aren't allowed to leave which puts more areas at risk of being hit by the random violence epidemic, it's all senseless, only a matter of time before people start protesting/rioting about the amount of burnt out buildings remaining because of the lack of funds to rebuild

I can see your point, but this is a band who've been in videos literally depicting them smashing up shops, breaking and entering, and harrassing people in their homes.

I'm just trying to spark a bit of debate here. If the sort of revolution ES are calling for doesn't include doing that sort of business, how is it going to be accomplished?

Newcastle city centre was quiet tonight - slightly heavier police presence than usual, but I've seen more of 'em out on a regular Saturday night. Toon polis know how to handle riots anyway, they get at least one every year for the derby.
There was one gang of about a dozen youths on Northumberland Street who were clearly hanging around to see if anything kicked off (and join in if it did) but as I walked past them, one announced that if there wasn't going to be a riot, he was off home, so that was that.

I can see your point also, the crowbars and balaclavas in the destabilise weren't really the best of examples to set but they may have had some sort of metaphorical meaning for something but that could be looking too far into it. Either way if the band is anti war and is talking about unity etc. it would seem hypocritical for them to endorse 'FUCK DA POLEES'-esque violence.

And I was in town today with the girlfriend and I noticed that also, felt I was being scrutinised by some who gave me very odd looks as I was walking around, fair enough there is a lot of tension between police and youths atm but still, profiling will not solve that tension

Nottingham is under fairly heavy attack. Not looting but just arson attacks. Various places. Notts police are doing really well to keep it under wraps but we're losing 40% of our force to London. I really can't do with it getting out of control.

Makes me happy that my high street, Eltham, stood up against the rioters and told them to jog on. My understanding is that there wasn't too much disturbance (bar maybe a few, but there's always some). Pity people focused on racism - ever since Stephen Lawrence we've had a really bad reputation. Apparently some people were EDL but there were 400 predominantly white people protesting - that would be said.

I think it's amazing how people are coming together to show these rioters that, if the police let them get away with it, the public won't. So proud of all the riot clean-ups going on as well. We're not all scum. I don't want London to be ruined because of a miniscule percentage of ignorant, uncaring dickheads.

I don't know where you all live, but I know many of you are from UK so be safe. I'm seeing pictures and videos everywhere except the American news. Every news channel is giving the stories like no air time, except for this political comic named Jon Stewart who told the story really inaccurately. But be safe you guys.
