Railcards

Post by Guest on Fri 29 Oct 2010, 1:52 am

We're all sad losers who travel far too much and much too far to see the same band over and over, lets face it. But before you top yourself for being such a pitiful existence, consider getting a Railcard first. Whilst you'll still be up and down the country more than a hookers knickers for a band (whilst you should probably be doing something more meaningful or productive...like visiting your dying Nan, or cracking on with that loft conversion) you'll find solace in MASSIVE savings. Imagine it, you won't feel totally and utterly ripped off every time you get on a train.

I shelled out £26 for a Railcard earlier this year and I reckon I've saved way over £300. I went to Glasgow (from London) this Summer and it cost me £39 with a Railcard...it would've cost me £79 otherwise. I booked well in advance and had to board at less-than-convenient times, but in the long run it was so so worth it. I've used the card for well over 20 journeys so far, each time saving well over 25%.

All of you should get one if you're planning to travel by train to see Shikari. Fuck it, get one if if you're not. You'll save so much in the long-run.

I've got a 3 year card, cost me £58 I think, and I've saved enough so I'm not over my overdraft limit. Reckon I'll get 4 figure savings easy. Peng.

My railcard has been a LIFESAVER. Get a 16-25, mega mega savings.

If you open a Natwest student account you get one for free for 5 years! That's what I got at least Razz

On a tangent, I'd also advise you all to take care which bank you decide to go with haha...a free rail card is a lovely perk, but don't compromise better rates, support and location. That said Natwest aren't terrible (at least nowhere near as terrible as Lloyds - fucking avoid them like the plague. Actually like a plague-infested pedophile with pig shit on his knob, long and hard ready to shag your gloopy brains out).

I'm with Lloyds. Sad Then again my mum used to work for the recruitment part of Lloyds, therefore I get the occasional perk, e.g. having my overdraft fine wiped the other week, harhar.

1) it's IRN BRU, learn to spell
2) gingies are the only currency, we've got to pay for everything in 30p increments.

Aye we use ice cream vans to distribute our shopping then pay them with recyclable glass bottles.

Also, I got one from RBS which has probs saved me a packet too. Got a return to LDN first class for like £70? Was well swish.
