'Ground Zero Mosque'
Yup. It's absolutely amazing how much of a stink this has caused in America. It shouldn't be a problem, but trust the new wave of kooky-aggressive Christians in America to go totally batshit over it. It's the same people who voted 'yes' on prop 8 or defend their right to own firearms presumably.

Re: 'Ground Zero Mosque'
yeah im all for the mosque, but to be fair whoever had the idea to put it so close to ground zero was a bit of a twat. it was obviously going to kick up a fuss amongst the repulicans.. should have just put it 10minutes down the road and saved all this aggro lol

Yeah, 300 Muslims died in the attacks. Americans aren't renowned for their terrific logic though, of course they can't separate a branch of extremists from an entire fucking religion. The people who carried out the attacks were obviously terrible terrible people who were Islamic (or were not, if kooky conspiracies are your thing) BUT I don't understand how you can condemn an entire culture 'cause of that. You think the average Muslim condones what happened that day? Of course not, it's just as sickening to them as it is to anyone else. The vast vast majority of Muslims are ordinary lovely people, not AK47-yielding scumbags who want nothing more than to kill innocent people.
I empathise with the Muslim community quite a lot actually - America has a pretty large ego so when they were attacked they felt humiliated, so the government decided to effectively slaughter Iraqis and the press (good ol' FOX especially) launched this racist tirade, slowly brain-washing the denser American populace. They've managed to convince a large number of Americans (70% apparently...) that MUSLIMS are to blame for 9/11...not, y'know, a network of terrorists who just so happen to be Muslims. Instead of pin-pointing the culprits they've just bombed, killed, imprisoned, tortured and sabotaged people. Britain are just as bad, we have absolutely no place out there in the Middle-East trying to muscle any country about. It's disgusting.
The most annoying thing about this 'Ground Zero Mosque' is that it isn't on Ground Zero, nor is it a mosque. A bunch of tabloid-monkeys have given it that name to cause more commotion...ah, the world we live in.

Kev, you know I detest religion and I absolutely despise some elements of the Muslim faith - stoning women? This isn't 700BC - but you absolutely cannot pin this on Muslims.
a. 9/11 (if that is the reason you believe this 'mosque' shouldn't go ahead) wasn't down to muslims - a few cowardly terrorists.
b. It's not progressive to stop people carrying out their religion (although if I had it my way anyone overtly religious would go straight to the looney bin) Remember what happened with USSR banned religion? Yeah, they got fucked.
Should England have beef with the Catholic community for 1993? Of course not, they concentrated on dismantling a terrorist group though.

It's not a Mosque and it's not on Ground Zero.
I read the Sun today (only 'paper' I could find in the canteen at work). "GROUND ZERO MOSQUE FURY" Just ridiculous.

It's especially bad here in Oklahoma were logic and reason seem to be absent from the minds of the majority of the population. Hell, who cares if they put the damn thing 5 feet away from where the towers once stood (or whatever the closest available lot is). 9/11 was not carried out by sane, logical people. If it was carried about by Al-Qaeda terrorists (always maintain some uncertainty) then what of it. Yes they were Muslim, and that's about all the similarities. Should there be fuss about the construction of churches near abortion clinics that were bombed? Oh wait, this is about Islam, that silly false religion in which everyone is crazy therefore it shouldn't be treated the same as Christianity, a perfectly logical religion. Whoops.
That said I say instead of a mosque or a community center or whatever we build a science center. MOAR FISIKS!

In most of the middle east, Christians wouldn't be able to build a church, they would get fucked over big time.

Muslims seem to be the new Jews in a modern society where you can't openly harm them so you just verbally and mentally abuse them. It's no wonder all this alienation has created Muslim versions of the EDL and a bigger reason for genuine terrorists to reek more havoc and spread more lies
On a side note Oklahoma may be filled with ignorant people Patrick but that place gave birth to Ashlynn Brooke and is therefore better than any other state

True, but the sad thing is that this concerns the United States of America, a nation that is suppose to have freedom of religion and is suppose to be secular. This sort of shit [unfortunately] is to be expected from oppressive regimes, but not in the US.

An eye for an eye...
Surely, if these places are so dreadful, living somewhere so comparatively liberal and open is something we should celebrate? Why would you want to revert back to some shitty Feudalistic state?

Jews have been mistreated throughout the entirety of history. Muslims hate Jews. They're definitely at the bottom of the stack, if there was some sorta philosophical hierarchy of 'people who get constantly shat on', a Jew would be below the whole list sucking the shit off the bottom-feeders toes.....figuratively speaking ofc. Jews don't eat poo. It's disgustingly unjust and I can't believe it's still socially acceptable to rip on Jews so severely and broadly - Muslims in particular are terrible for this. Who'd have thought using a ruler to randomly draw a line on a map to separate a country would cause so much hassle...

Shouldn't a country be proud to host many different religions?

Hate it when Islamic extremists are thought to be a representation of the Muslim faith.
It's like saying that the Westboro Baptist Church represents Christianity.

Okay, i read abit about it. And yeah, i'm still shocked (well not shocked, but just disgusted) that a coutry so big can be so hypocritial. This is so racist. And something they go against?
But surely, after the US started war on Iraq and stuff, and then a US Christian community decided to put a church round the corner from where lots of people got killed there, it would be the same story, the other way round.
I guess it's just natural for people to kinda judge people, and races. Nothing will ever stop it.
