The Driving Thread
So i'm guessing people are learning to drive and others have already passed?
I have my driving test coming up and was wondering if anyone would be able to give some tips for the test? It would help me, and i'm sure a few others, a lot!

Banter. Keep it up with the examiner. I should've failed but I kept my patter up and got my pink licence.

Re: The Driving Thread
If you make a mistake and think you've failed, don't give up.
In my test I was taken down a road with cars on my side and had to pull over into a really small spot to let a car past. When I pulled out again the examiner actually shouted "Stop!" cause he thought I was gonna hit a parked car..?
I was so sure I had failed that I almost told the examiner to end the test, but it turns out I only got a minor for it and passed.
Good luck with your test.

Thanks for the advice so far. Though in my first test, I failed within with first 5minutes or so, and one of the reasons being is because I wasn't concentrating enough and the instructor would't stop asking questions about me/my hobbies. I know they do it to make me feel more comfortable, but i'd rather sit in silence ha :/
Re: The Driving Thread
I got my licence by giving up all hope of ever passing it and thinking 'fuck it' and ended up driving like a pro, haha. Just don't get too nervous.
Re: The Driving Thread
Learning to drive atm, so bad on the mirrors. My instructor talks so much and it distracts me to no end. Almost went straight over a pedestrian crossing with people trying to cross. Also when going round the roundabouts he's like ok ok 2nd 2nd brake early brake oh wait go go go no wait missed your slot OH WAIT NOW GO GOGO *stalls*

Re: The Driving Thread
I failed 4 times, on the 4th time I had an arguement with the test guy and made him get out and walk 2 miles back to the test center. On the 5th time I had him again and he was so nervous about having to walk back again we didn't go hardly anywhere away from the test center, thus giving me a nice easy test and I passed.
So really I shouldn't be allowed on the road.

I passed first time too Babs, and I too, cannot park, haha.
Apparently I almost failed in that if I had kept my indicator on for a fraction of a second longer, I wouldn't have passed.
Probably wouldn't be able to live without my car now, love ittt!

99.99999999% of every accident in the UK is a woman's fault. Science fact.

I failed first time last November over annoyingly silly things.
Got a test end of September now. It's frustrating knowing you can drive but that it's so easy to make a little mistake and fail, nerves are so gonna take over.

Re: The Driving Thread
Well, i failed again. But nevermind. Just nerves, cos i know i can drive, it's just hard to prove it to the examiner when you've shaking like a leaf and sweating yourself into a premature death.
Re: The Driving Thread
I passed my test in 1967, on the 2nd attempt. On first one I did the first part of a 3 point turn, put my hand brake on, couldn't understand why the car wouldn't reverse, found the handbrake was on, shot backwards and hit the kerb, but he failed me on not appearing to look in my mirrors, although I did use them enough, just too subtlely

I passed 4th time haha. Got 3 different examiners the 1st 3 times, all guys who were supposed to me fairly lenient. 4th time I got a woman (young woman, like 26 or so I guess) who is supposed to be an absolute witch who fails just about everyone and uses the brakes for anything. And I passed with her. Not only that, we had a wee chat about music and stuff and it came up that I was going to Evo (was like a week before) and she was like "awww Enter Shikari are there, wish I could go". What are the chances? haha
